Olive oil tasting

Try before you buy. At Molino y Cata you can taste all our extra virgin olive oils before choosing yours.

There's something that sets us apart from any other olive oil shop: at Molino y Cata, you can taste every single oil before you buy. Not just one or two. Every single one. Because we believe the best way to choose an extra virgin olive oil is by tasting it, not by reading a label.

Visit our olive oil shop in the heart of Granada, tell us what you're looking for, and we'll open the bottles you need. We'll guide you through the varieties, explain the differences, and let you taste until you find the perfect oil. No obligation, no rush.

📍 Calle Paz 12, Granada — 2 minutes from the Cathedral
🕐 No reservation needed: Monday to Friday 10:30-13:30 and 17:30-20:30 | Saturday 10:30-13:30

How the tasting works

The in-store tasting is free and open to anyone who walks in during our business hours. No reservation or payment is necessary. Just come in, tell us what you'd like to try, and we'll take care of the rest.

We personally guide you through our selection of premium EVOOs: Picual from Jaén, Arbequina, Hojiblanca, Frantoio from Granada, little-known local varieties... Each oil has its own story, origin and sensory profile, and we'll tell you about it while you taste it.

This isn't a formal tasting with a set methodology and evaluation sheets (for that, we have our guided tastings ). This tasting is a more relaxed and informal experience: you come, you taste, you ask questions, you discover, and you take home what you liked best. Or you don't take anything at all, no problem.

Most people who come in leave with at least one bottle. Not because we pressure them, but because when you taste a real extra virgin olive oil, you can tell. And then you don't want anything else.

Tasting with reservation

Our free tasting operates on a first-come, first-served basis, and at certain times of the year—especially during peak tourist season, long weekends, and holidays—there may be a wait. If you'd like to guarantee a spot at a specific time and avoid the queues, you can book your tasting in advance.

What does the tasting with reservation include?

In addition to a guided tasting of all our oils, the reservation includes artisan bread and bowls for dipping , water, and soft drinks. It's a more relaxed way to enjoy the experience, with a space and time reserved just for you.

This option is especially useful for tourists visiting Granada with a fixed schedule , for tour guides who want to include the tasting in their tour with a fixed time, and for hotels and accommodations that recommend the experience to their guests and want to guarantee availability.

What can you try?

At Molino y Cata, we work exclusively with high-quality extra virgin olive oils. Our selection changes with each harvest, but you will always find:

Olive oils from Jaén: the province that produces the most olive oil in the world. Intense Picual, full-bodied, bitter, and spicy. Ideal for those seeking character. See olive oils from Jaén →

Olive oils from Granada: local varieties such as Frantoio, grown in the Lecrín Valley, or Lucio from the tropical coast. Oils with their own unique character. See olive oils from Granada →

Olive oils from Málaga: Hojiblanca from Antequera, Verdial from Axarquía. Balanced, smooth oils with unique nuances. See olive oils from Málaga →

Oils from other regions: selections from Córdoba, Toledo, Catalonia, and other producing areas of Spain. Always extra virgin, always from the current harvest.

You can also try our flavored oils and other gourmet products such as potatoes with EVOO , gourmet olives and artisan cookies .

Who is the tasting for?

Tourists in Granada: If you're strolling through the city center and want an authentic experience, come in for a taste of our olive oil. We're just steps from the Cathedral, the Royal Chapel, and the Albaicín. It's the perfect stop between sightseeing.

Granada residents looking to buy quality olive oil: if you're tired of blindly buying oil at the supermarket, here you can sample before you buy. We'll advise you based on your preferences and how you plan to use it.

Gifts: If you're looking for a gourmet gift or a favor for weddings and communions , tasting the oils before choosing makes all the difference. We'll help you put together the perfect gift.

Tour guides and hotels: If you recommend experiences to your clients, the reservation-based tasting service allows you to include us in your itinerary with a guaranteed time slot. Contact us to discuss a collaboration.

Tasting vs. Sampling: What's the difference?

We get asked this a lot, and it's important to understand that they are different things:

The tasting is a free and open experience. You come into the shop, sample oils with our guidance, and take home what you like best. It's informal, with no fixed schedule, and geared towards discovery and purchase.

The guided tasting is an educational experience that requires prior booking. It follows the professional methodology used by tasting panels: olfactory and gustatory phases, identification of attributes, comparison of varieties, and analysis of defects. It lasts between 60 and 90 minutes, and you leave with practical knowledge of sensory analysis.

If it's your first time, a tasting is a perfect way to start. If you're curious and want to delve deeper, a full tasting opens up a whole new world.

And of course, you can do both: sample today and book a tasting for tomorrow. Many visitors do this.
